Congrats on taking the crown! This event rewarded speed of answering - how did you balance answering fast with answering accurately?
ChimaraChroma:"Keywords. Picked some out and answered as fast as I could."
Were there any questions that threw you off? What made it tricky?
ChimaraChroma:"Some questions did tilt me off - like basically the same answer but the difference is 'guaranteed' and 'a chance'."
Did you study anything beforehand, or did you rely on your existing PokeMMO knowledge?
ChimaraChroma:"All stock or nothing."
What was your favorite moment from the challenge?
ChimaraChroma:"Zekrom is still in my room, Boss. We all technically own it."
Would you participate in this type of event again?
ChimaraChroma:"Yes, but as a spectator probably."
What type of questions did you have the easiest time answering?
ChimaraChroma:"The phenos one. I relied on the Crimson Core app to monitor it during my time completing dex - it has the answer listed right there."
Would you like to see more trivia or mechanics-based events in the future?
ChimaraChroma:"That would be great! We do want more of the Academy people joining us though."
What motivated you to join this event?
ChimaraChroma:"I have no friends and never experienced Kahoot before ;.;"
Was there anything new you learned that surprised you?
ChimaraChroma:"How deep everyone else's voices are. They're so cool."
Any last words for the participants or the wider community?
ChimaraChroma:"Winning comes with prizes but losing rewards you with knowledge you can use to win next time. Just keep on trying!"
What inspired you to create a Kahoot challenge for the Crimson Core team?
Heavybreathing:"I got feedback that some players wanted more engaging events that were more social, so I've used Kahoot before and found it fun - with the voice channels it felt like the perfect avenue to try it out."
How did you decide which questions to include? Was it tough balancing the difficulty?
Heavybreathing:"I wanted to ensure it was all based around PokeMMO - mechanics that we all deal with - so just playing the game would mean you could know the answer. I love trick questions and managed to get at least 4 in there with a funny 'Who's that Pokémon?' thrown in. The struggle was figuring out the right words to twist it that way!"
What did you hope participants would take away from this challenge?
Heavybreathing:"To feel a bit more competitively connected. Voice chat is a great way to get to know us more - understandably not everyone likes to chat, but being there for the quiz means you don't have to talk, so you can still experience what it's like."
What was the hardest part of hosting this live event?
Heavybreathing:"Technical issues (my laptop died while setting up) and finding the right time that more people could be involved. After speaking to HairyTurds, we're going to be running the next ones slightly differently."
How did the community react to the format and the questions?
Heavybreathing:"They were very well received and found it fun - Mothernature's response to some of the trick questions was especially funny."
Was there a standout moment for you during the event?
Heavybreathing:"The 'Who's that Pokémon?' had an overview picture of a Voltorb, with the answers Pikachu, Voltorb, Electrode and Jigglypuff. The only identifying feature was small eyebrows in the shadow - it was amusing hearing the reactions when I highlighted that!"
Do you see yourself hosting more events like this in the future?
Heavybreathing:"Absolutely. At the very least once a month but will try every two weeks."
Is there anything you would change about how you ran it?
Heavybreathing:"The current plan is to share a day with HairyTurds - I'll run one that works for my timezone and Hairy will run another for his, so there'll be two chances in the same day. We'll also be opening this up to our Academy members too!"
Any last words for the participants or the wider community?
Heavybreathing:"Please do engage with our events. Me and the leadership team spend a lot of time organising and running these - making sure the website and Discord bots work together for a seamless experience. It does feel disheartening when it gets ignored. If anything is stopping you from taking part, please let us know so we can adjust and make sure everyone is enjoying being a part of our community!"
A huge congratulations to ChimaraChroma on their victory,
and a massive thank you to Heavybreathing for putting together
such a fun and well crafted event. The first Coremaster Kahoot Challenge is officially in the books,
stay tuned for future editions.
